DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Indian Land Tenure Foundation

Organization summary:

The Indian Land Tenure Foundation (ILTF), a national, nonprofit organization headquartered in Little Canada, is seeking a Development Officer. Created in 2001, ILTF’s mission is to ensure that land within the boundaries of every of reservation and other areas of high significance where tribes retain aboriginal interest are in Indian ownership and management. The foundation is about to launch a major fundraising campaign that will assist in the recovery of 90 million acres of Indian lands. To learn more, visit www.indianlandtenure.org.


Position summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Development Officer implements fundraising strategies to secure philanthropic support for the foundation’s fundraising priorities. The Development Officer will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major/individual, corporate, foundation and tribal prospects for continued general operating support and special initiatives of the foundation while continuing to build its overall endowment.

 


Essential functions:
  • Implement a plan to prospect and establish new corporate, foundation and tribal donor relationships with a goal of increasing the foundation’s base of support.
  • Plan and manage small events, site visits, volunteer activities, projects and initiatives for existing and prospective donors.
  • Track all activity related to the management of donors/prospects.
  • Maintain an annual portfolio of major donor prospects and actively engage in personal visits.
  • Write correspondence, proposals and reports as needed.
  • Provide written and verbal reports regarding results of fundraising efforts.
  • Provide management of online fundraising campaigns geared toward reaching new audiences using traditional and Web 2.0 methods.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree with three to five years direct fundraising, grant writing, e-communications, direct marketing or donor solicitation experience.
  • Thorough understanding of fundraising programs, including individual, corporate and foundation gifts, and knowledge of grant management, gift management and stewardship.
  • Strong public relations, interpersonal communication skills and professional judgment.
  • Exemplary written communication skills and the ability to write reports and business correspondence.
  • Strong computer/data management skills, including but not limited to MS Office, Excel, Power Point and SAGE Fundraising Model (preferred).
  • Must be highly detailed with the ability to organize, manage and meet deadlines of project assignments.
  • Highly professional demeanor and team player capable of working with a variety of leadership styles.


Additional consideration:

  • Familiarity or demonstrated experience in working with other Native nonprofits or tribally based programs.
  • Evidence of degree(s) or certification(s) may be required at time of hire.
