PROGRAM COUNSELOR
T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Minnesota

Part time, non-exempt status


Job summary:
T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Minnesota is a scholarship program intended to help early childhood and school-age care professionals increase their education, compensation and commitment to the field. The T.E.A.C.H. Program Counselor is responsible for the case management for scholarship recipients funded through the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Program. The T.E.A.C.H. Program Counselor is a part of a professional development department that is committed to strengthening the child care system in Minnesota by creating, supporting and promoting quality continuing education opportunities for child care providers. This is a part-time position that reports to the Professional Development Director.


Duties and responsibilities:
  • Review and process applications and award scholarships.
  • Maintain files and database of recipients and sponsors.
  • Authorize, process and track charge approvals for tuition.
  • Notify recipients/sponsors about raises or bonuses and track wage progression in file.
  • Provide technical assistance regarding the T.E.A.C.H. process to centers, providers and college personnel.
  • Contact each T.E.A.C.H. scholarship recipient a minimum of two times per year.
  • Provide academic, career and some personal counseling to recipients.
  • Respond to in-state requests for information/application materials.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the college Early Childhood Coordinator or instructors through regular contact.
  • Assure that the E.C. instructor and the financial aid office have the list of students approved for scholarships before the beginning of each semester.
  • Assist T.E.A.C.H. Coordinator in reviewing scholarship applications and other documents as requested.
  • Attend T.E.A.C.H. and other Professional Development-related meetings as requested.

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or related human services field
  • Minimum of one year work experience in the child care profession
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work well with a diverse client population
  • Ability to assume responsibility for completion of assignments
  • Computer literacy - preferably with good data entry skills
  • Reliable transportation - ability to travel inside and outside Minnesota
  • Ability to address groups of people/make presentations

Working conditions:
  • Small, but fast-paced and dynamic office environment in St. Paul, conveniently located close to downtown and highway access with ample, free off-street parking
  • Regular, on-site office time is required, but flexible scheduling is available
  • Some travel required (average of 1 or 2 day trips per month within Minnesota and 1 or 2 overnight trips per year within and outside of Minnesota); must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Compensation and benefits:
  • Salary starting at $14,840.00 dependant upon education and experience
  • Flexible Benefit package
