GRANT WRITER
Urban Ventures Leadership Foundation

Established in 1993, Urban Ventures is a faith-based, nonprofit organization whose mission is to break the cycle of generation poverty in the Phillips/Central neighborhood. In order to do this, we address academic poverty by developing youth leadership; we address parental poverty by strengthening families; and we address economic poverty by creating meaningful work opportunities. All the programs of Urban Ventures focus on developing these assets and capacity in ways that help build a livable, sustainable and safe neighborhood.

The grant writer will:

Through interviews and other means, gather information that will allow him/her to grasp the concept of a project or program for which funding is sought.
Research grantmaking organizations and identify likely funding sources for specific projects and programs.
Compile, write and edit all grant applications exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling.
Establish long-term relationships with funders as well as create the internal systems/processes necessary to seek out and respond to grants with meaningful impact.
Review the budget of a project or program and make recommendations to better present it to grantmaking organizations.
Manage the process of supplying progress reports when required by a grantmaking organization.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of two years formal experience in writing and editing proposals
Excellent communication skills and strong research and analysis ability
Detail oriented with proven performance success operating within given deadlines
Two years experience in grant management
