COMMUNITY IMPACT PROGRAM MANAGER - CHILDREN AND FAMILIES Greater Twin Cities United Way Posted Sept. 9, 2008 Greater Twin Cities United Way unites caring people in building stronger communities by inspiring people to help others, increasing resources to meet needs and fostering innovative solutions to problems. This position will play an instrumental role in reaching our Agenda for Lasting Change which focuses on 10 goals in three key areas, the building blocks for a good life. This position will focus on the following community issue: high school graduation rates can be predicted from third-grade reading success. In our community, a large academic achievement gap exists between students from low-income families and students who have greater access to resources. This gap widens throughout school, resulting in vastly divergent high school graduation rates. This position will work with the Children and Families team to ensure measurable results against the goal of increasing the number of third-graders from low-income families reading at grade level to 80% by 2012. The Children and Families area is also charged with reducing family violence by increasing access to services 20 percent by 2012 and reach 15,000 additional youth through quality out-of-school-time programming by 2012. Description: This position will build expertise and create a depth of knowledge about literacy and academic achievement with a focus on elementary age students and the human services and education systems. The position will be responsible for grant development and management for programs and initiatives and will also be a community leader building relationships with a variety of stakeholders to assess the most pressing issues in our service area.
