HR Assistant
Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies

Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, which encompasses the three charitable grant making organizations formed by Margaret A. Cargill: Akaloa Resource Foundation, Anne Ray Charitable Trust and the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation, is currently seeking a Human Resources Assistant. The Foundations are dedicated to providing meaningful assistance and support to society, the arts, the environment, and all living things.

Job Purpose
To provide HR support to the Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, which encompasses the three charitable grant making organizations formed by Margaret A. Cargill: Akaloa Resource Foundation, Anne Ray Charitable Trust and the Margaret A. Cargill Foundation. This position will support the fast-paced human resources department and requires continual attention to detail and the proven ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.

Job Duties

  • Assists HR department in carrying out various programs and procedures. Provide administrative support to HR; including but not limited to: organizing and maintaining files; preparing expense reports; processing mail; typing letters, memos, meeting coordination and assembly of meeting materials
  • Conducts recruitment efforts for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, students, and temporary employees; administers pre-employment tests; conducts reference checks
  • Conducts new-employee orientation
  • Coordinating benefits enrollment for new hires and employee changes such as medical, dental, disability, and life insurance
  • Maintains Human Resource Information System records and compiles reports from database
  • Handling confidential information with integrity
  • Maintains company organization charts and employee directory
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Education and Experience

  • BA in Human Resources and two years of relevant work experience; or four years of equivalent work experience
  • Requires prior knowledge of principles and practices of human resources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software tools and openness to using new technologies
  • HRIS experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must have effective writing, proofreading and problem solving skills
  • Ability to negotiate effectively
  • Excellent customer service mindset
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task

Travel: None anticipated

Special Requirements:
Ability to interface well with internal and external business associates in a highly professional manner and to maintain the highest level of confidentiality in both internal and external relationships. Multi-task orientated. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with other team members and administrative staff.

Physical Demands:
Required to sit for long periods of time
Infrequent light physical effort required
Ability to lift and carry approximately 30 lbs
