Organizational Summary
Minnesota Community Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation are community
foundations—nonprofit organizations created by and for local residents to focus
on the health and vitality of a geographic region. The Foundations help donors
fulfill their charitable goals and work with communities to identify issues that
need attention. Minnesota Community Foundation has been serving the statewide
community since 1949. The Saint Paul Foundation is the state’s largest community
foundation, serving Saint Paul and surrounding areas since 1940. Together, the
Foundations manage assets of more than $700 million and have granted more than
$650 million to programs and organizations in Minnesota.
Position – Gift Planner
A successful gift planner will have an understanding of and a passion for the
complex role that a community foundation can play with donors, nonprofits and
communities. Along with that basic tenet, an individual that has cultivated the
following professional skill sets will be successful as a gift planner for the
foundations.
Technical skills – Planned giving and major gift experience; nonprofit
development experience; understanding of successful outside sales tactics.
Communication skills – Convey complex concepts clearly; ability to make cold
calls and set appointments; active listener.
Teamwork – Ability to work intra- and inter-departmentally with peers; ability
to work with a donor’s team of professional advisors.
