Minnesota’s Foundation Center Cooperating Collections
An excellent grantseeking resource is the Foundation Center Cooperating Collection nearest you. These collections were established by The Foundation Center, a nonprofit research and publishing organization located in New York City. Each collection carries many of The Foundation Center publications, which include several national directories of foundations. Many collections can also do short computer searches through a connection to The Foundation Center’s database on CD-ROM (FC Search), and each has a specially trained librarian assigned to help you.

Visit the Foundation Center's website for an updated list of Cooperating Collection locations in Minnesota. Some of the items available at Cooperating Collections:

  • The Foundation Directory Online Professional or FC Search: The Foundation Center's Database on CD-ROM
  • Foundation Grants to Individuals Online
  • The Foundation Center's Guide to Proposal Writing (2007)
  • The Grantseeker's Guide to Winning Proposals (2008)
  • The Foundation Directory, parts 1, 2 and 3 (2008)
  • Foundation Fundamentals (2008)
  • Foundation Grants to Individuals (2008)
  • Foundations Today Series (giving trends, estimates, yearbook)
  • National Directory of Corporate Giving (2008)
  • Social Justice Grantmaking II (2008)
Note: Titles and publication dates are subject to change without prior notice. It is recommended that you call the collection in advance of a visit to determine hours and availability.

Some collections also have microfiche copies of the IRS Forms 990-PF for Minnesota foundations. 990-PFs are tax returns that list all the gifts made by a foundation during the previous fiscal year. 990-PFs can be a particularly useful research tool to find out more about a foundation that has no written guidelines or annual report.
