CHS Cooperatives Foundation to Match Contributions for East Coast Assistance

The CHS Cooperatives Foundation has announced that it will provide a match of up to $30,000 to contributions from local cooperatives and CHS employees for assistance in the aftermath of terrorist acts on the East Coast. The funds will be designated to the United Way's September 11th Fund, which was established to assist victims and their communities.

"With so many needs to address in the aftermath of this tragedy, we believe this is the best and most efficient opportunity to provide assistance," said William Nelson, president, CHS Foundation.

Those wishing to contribute should submit checks payable to "CHS Cooperatives Foundation" and mail them to: CHS Foundation, 5500 Cenex Drive, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55077. Contributions should be received by Oct. 31 and are tax deductible.

Nelson also encouraged local co-ops and employees to provide ongoing support to the American Red Cross and other agencies in their communities, including blood donations, as well as to their locally based United Way organization.

"In the coming weeks and months, repercussions from this event will be felt in every community in our nation," Nelson said. "It's important that we remember that assistance will be needed nationwide, in addition to the East Coast recovery efforts."

The CHS Cooperatives Foundation is an independent private foundation committed to the future of agriculture, cooperative and rural America through funding of programs including scholarships, rural youth leadership development, added value for rural communities, cooperative education, farm and agricultural safety and emergency/disaster relief.
