Description: This annual convening honors the commitment and legacy of the late Nancy Latimer and provides an opportunity to bring colleagues together to discuss critical issues affecting children, youth and families.

The Nancy Awards, recognizing extraordinary leadership in improving the well-being of young children, will also be presented at the convening to the Minnesota Initiative Foundations in recognition of their outstanding leadership, vision, and commitment to enhancing the social and emotional development of infants and young children through the Minnesota Thrive Initiative.

This year’s keynote presentation is: “Straw, Stick, Brick: A Conversation About Building a Strong Early Childhood System.” Keynote speakers Barb Yates and Karen Cadigan will examine what it takes to help Minnesota’s young children and their families thrive. Both speakers have been advising the new administration on what to do to advance early childhood education in Minnesota.

Speakers:

  • Barb Yates, assistant commissioner, Minnesota Department of Education; executive director, Resources for Child Caring
  • Karen Cadigan, research fellow, University of Minnesota's Center for Early Education and Development; policy director, University's Children, Youth and Family Consortium
