Popular Grantseeking Seminar for Nonprofits
Coming to Duluth
Local Foundations Co-Sponsor "Grantseeking for Beginners" MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (March 14, 2003) On April 11, nonprofits in the northern Minnesota region can access the state's leading grantseeking expertise when the Minnesota Council on Foundations' "Grantseeking for Beginners" seminar comes to Duluth. The daylong program is co-sponsored by the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation and the Northland Foundation. The popular seminar gives beginning grantseekers a comprehensive introduction to the basics of grantwriting. A unique seminar feature is the interactive panel session with Minnesota grantmakers, who will share their insights to the grant proposal review and decision-making process. The lead presenter is Barbara Davis, one of Minnesota's most widely respected grantseeking experts. "We are pleased to bring this useful seminar to Duluth to help local nonprofits enhance the effectiveness of their grantseeking," said Holly Sampson, president of the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation. "The Council's seminars receive consistently high marks from attendees." The seminar will be held at the Holiday Inn in Duluth. The registration fee is $95, but Greater Minnesota residents can receive a $50 scholarship thanks to a subsidy from The Russell V. Ewald Fund, which was created by the six Minnesota Initiative Foundations, including the Northland Foundation in Duluth. "I encourage all beginning grantseekers in the region to take advantage of this unique scholarship opportunity," said Northland Foundation president Tom Renier. "You'll walk away with practical skills and knowledge for identifying potential foundation and corporate funding sources and developing effective grant proposals. In today's economic environment, these learnings are more important then ever." More information and a registration form for the Duluth "Grantseeking for Beginners" seminar are available on the Council's Web site at www.mcf.org (select "Grantseeking Seminars"), or by contacting the Council at 612/338-1989, info@mcf.org. Founded in 1969, the Minnesota Council on Foundations' mission is to strengthen and expand philanthropy. The Council is a regional membership association of grantmakers working to improve the vitality and health of our communities. Council members include private foundations, community and other public foundations, and corporate foundations and giving programs.
