Representative Early Childhood Organizations, Programs and Collaborations in Minnesota

Organizations serve the needs of a broad spectrum of parents and young children.

Alliance of Early Childhood Professionals

An organization that engages in research, education and systems change to increase the recognition, respect and compensation of the child development workforce and make educating and caring for children a lifelong profession.

Childcare Works
childcareworks.org
A coalition of parents, caregivers and children's advocates that strives to achieve high-quality, affordable and accessible child care for every Minnesota family. The Childcare Leadership, Education and Mobilization project includes grassroots activity to create relationships with every legislator in the state.

Children, Youth and Family Consortium cyfc.umn.edu
An organization that provides leadership for the University of Minnesota's President's Initiative on Children, Youth and Families, serving as a bridge to information and resources and connecting research, teaching, policy and community practice.

Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota cdf-mn.org
An organization that works to ensure that all Minnesota children have health care coverage, compile statewide county-by-county data on the well-being of Minnesota's children and families, improve state tax policies and help frame state policy debates to consider the well-being of children in all public decision making.

Development Corporation for Children dcc-corner.com
An organization dedicated to helping family child care providers and early childhood education centers become better businesses. Development Corporation for Children works with child care providers, community developers and planners, businesses, government, foundations, and resource and referral agencies to provide training, financing and other resources. 

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE)

Community Education programs, funded by the Minnesota Department of Education, local school districts and parent contributions. Programs focus on parent education of young children and some programming for children.

Greater Twin Cities United Way and Success by Six unitedwaytwincities.org
A privately funded organization that funds child care centers. Success by Six increases awareness about school readiness and promotes quality and standards for early childhood services.

Head Start mnheadstart.org
A comprehensive federal-and state-funded program for low-income children and their families that works to improve school readiness, health and other family supports needed for young children to thrive.

Itasca Project www.theitascaproject.com
A group of corporate and community leaders looking at major forces and factors that will impact the future of the Twin Cities. The committee develops recommendations for private and public actions designed to tackle key problems and opportunities, including early childhood.

Minneapolis Children's Advocacy Network

A coalition of advocates for children promoting healthy development, education and well-being of children in Minneapolis and urban Hennepin County. Minneapolis CAN comprises a network of 100 organizations and 500 stakeholders.

Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children mnaeyc.org
A membership-based association of over 1,500 child development professionals that promotes the professional growth and development of those committed to care and education of young children. MAEYC is an affiliate of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Minnesota Business for Early Learning mnbel.org
A new 200-member business organization, representing over 100 companies and organizations, focused on raising awareness and involvement of Minnesota business leaders in early care and education.

Minnesota Childcare Resource and Referral Network mnchildcare.org
A statewide child care referral source for parents to identify, locate and obtain community-based child care resources and for providers to obtain valuable information on how to improve service delivery.

Minnesota Children's Platform Coalition everychildmatters.org
A collaborative effort of families, faith communities, nonprofit and community organizations, businesses, labor unions and higher education, partnering with Every Child Matters on behalf of children and youth in the state of Minnesota. The coalition seeks to increase the participation of child-serving staff, and the parents and grandparents of the children they serve, in civic affairs.

Minnesota Department of Education children.state.mn.us/mde
A state agency whose mission is to improve education achievement by establishing clear standards, measuring performance, assisting educators and increasing opportunities for lifelong learning. Programs include Early Childhood Family Education, Early Childhood Screening, Even Start, Head Start and School Readiness Program.

Minnesota Department of Health health.state.mn.us
A state agency whose mission is to protect and improve the health of Minnesotans. Departments include community health, environmental health and family health, with programs for maternal and children's health and children with special health needs.

Minnesota Department of Human Services www.dhs.state.mn.us
A state agency whose mission is to help people meet their basic needs, including a variety of services for children, people with disabilities and older Minnesotans. Services for children include child protective services, out-of-home care, permanent homes for children and children's mental health services.

Ready 4 K www.ready4k.org
A school readiness campaign working to bring about comprehensive policy change on behalf of Minnesota's children, their parents and their caregivers.

Resources for Child Caring resourcesforchildcare.org
A Twin Cities East Metro child care resource and referral organization that educates those who care for children, publishes award-winning books for early childhood professionals and parents, and strengthens child care systems in public policy.

Way to Grow www.mplswaytogrow.org
A Minneapolis program that serves very low-income children ages 0-5 and their families, including expectant parents. It promotes early childhood development through education, school readiness support and training provided by home visitors who represent the many cultures and languages of the city's youngest children.
