In response to the devastating tornado that swept through Minneapolis' north side on May 22, grantmakers from across the metro area are mobilizing to collect funds and coordinate services to support those affected.
On this page MCF is keeping a running tally of the grantmaking efforts to date. If you are a grantmaker responding to the disaster, please keep MCF informed of your efforts.

Grantmaker Giving in Response to the Disaster
- As of June 23, more than $430,000 in grants have been awarded by the North Minneapols Recovery Fund to assist victims of the tornado. See which organizations have received support and read more.
- As of June 10, the North Minneapolis Recovery Fund has raised more than $1 million dollars! Read more.
- As of May 27, more than $486,000 had been raised with an additional $100,000 added to the matching grant. Read more.
- Thanks to The Minneapolis Foundation, The United Way Twin Cities and funding partners, the North Minneapolis Fund was set up to match public giving up to $200,000 at GiveMN.org. Read more.
- 3M Foundation contributed $25,000 and hand sanitizer product to the American Red Cross.
- Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America contributed $12,000 toward tornado relief efforts. Money will be given to the American Red Cross ($5,000), the Salvation Army ($5,000) and Urban Homeworks ($2,000).
- Best Buy contributed $25,000 to the Minneapolis Foundation to support relief efforts. Read more.
- Catholic United Financial Foundation has helped with equipment, tools and volunteers. Read more.
- Comcast donated $50,000 to tornado relief efforts. Read more.
Deluxe Foundation donated $50,000 to the American Red Cross for tornado relief locally and across the U.S. and will match employee gifts for another $25,000.
- General Mills Foundation announced $100,000 in grants for long-term support of North Minneapolis’ rebuilding efforts. The June 2 announcement is in addition to their pledge of $25,000 to support the immediate response. Read more.
- Land O'Lakes made a $10,000 grant to the United Way and is matching employee gifts for another $10,000.
- Medica Foundation contributed $10,000 to the American Red Cross.
- The Medtronic Foundation pledged $50,000 to the Twin Cities Chapter of the American Red Cross to support disaster aid, cleanup and rebuilding efforts. Read more.
- Mosaic donated $25,000 for tornado relief efforts in Minneapolis. Read more. Mosaic also donated $25,000 for Missouri tornado relief and $25,000 for Minot flood relief.
- RBC Foundation - USA donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross. The Foundation will match employee donations made to disaster relief organizations, and RBC Wealth Management is collecting donations of gift cards for Cub Foods to support teachers and families of Anwatin Middle School, a school RBC has long partnered with.
- Target Corporation donated an additional $50,000 in monetary support and product, bringing their total support in Minnesota to $100,000. Read more.
- TCF Foundation gave $10,000 to the North Minneapolis Recovery Fund to support immediate humanitarian needs of North Minneapolis residents.
- UnitedHealth Group participates in the Annual Disaster Giving Program of the American Red Cross; as part of that arrangement, $50,000 will fund tornado relief efforts. Read more.
- U.S. Bank contributed $25,000 to the relief efforts through the North Minneapolis Fund.
- Wells Fargo donated $50,000 for North Minneapolis tornado relief efforts. Read more.
