About Susie
When she isn’t working, you can often find Susie in the St. Croix Valley where she grew up, and where she and her family enjoy many outdoor activities, including sailing and skiing. Susie’s combined love of downhill skiing and travel has led the Brown family to explore snowy mountains throughout the world. She also loves to cook, is an avid reader, and is a Myers-Briggs ENTP. The StrengthsFinder assessment reveals that Susie’s top five strengths are: adaptability; futuristic; strategic; ideation; positivity. Susie joined MCF as President in April, 2019. She and her husband, who have a college-aged daughter, live in St. Paul.

Susie has spent her career in the nonprofit sector, working in roles focused on public policy and organizational leadership. She started her career in New England, and has lived and worked in Minnesota since 2002. Prior to joining MCF, her professional leadership roles have included: Public Affairs Director, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England; Public Policy Director, The Family Partnership (FKA Family & Children’s Service); Executive Director, Child Care WORKS; Public Policy Director, Minnesota Council of Nonprofits; Executive Director, Hennepin County Bar Association and Hennepin County Bar Foundation; Chief Operating Officer, Minnesota State Bar Association. Susie also served on the faculty of the Hamline University School of Business for 11 years. She currently serves on the Finance and Audit Committee for the United Philanthropy Forum, and the Human Resources Committee for the Saint Croix Valley Foundation.

She holds a BA degree in international affairs from Lewis and Clark College and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Vermont. She was a Humphrey Institute Policy Fellow in 2006.
